In 2023, the Youth Division of Africa Environmental Watch (AEW) embarked on a mission to establish a student chapter at the University of Maryland. This vision was championed by Lenair Koffa, a dedicated youth leader and University of Maryland student, whose passion for environmental stewardship inspired him to bring AEW's mission to campus.
After sharing his vision with one of his professors, Lenair began the journey of navigating the university's chapter approval process. Through perseverance, commitment, and careful attention to every requirement, the dream became a reality. In October 2024, TERPS for African Sustainability was officially recognized as a student organization on the University of Maryland campus.
This milestone represented more than the establishment of a new campus organization.
It created an opportunity for AEW's Youth Division to expand its mission by engaging and empowering young people around environmental issues that impact their communities, their future, and the African continent.
With the guidance and support of our very own Dr. Koffa and Dr. Emanuel Wanjala, Lenair now proudly serves as President of TERPS for African Sustainability.
Through education, advocacy, and action, the organization is helping to cultivate the next generation of environmental leaders.
We invite you to support TERPS for African Sustainability as they continue their important work of promoting awareness, inspiring action, and building a more sustainable future for all.

Our mission is to transform cities into more sustainable, livable places. Join our community of urban activists and help us advocate for policies and projects that prioritize people and the planet.

What does a green city look like? How can we balance economic growth with environmental stewardship? Explore our resources to learn about the principles of sustainable urbanism, and how we're putting them into practice.

Change starts at the local level. Our city chapters organize community events, collaborate with local officials, and promote sustainable practices in their neighborhoods. Find a group near you and get involved.

We rely on the generosity of our supporters to fund our advocacy and outreach efforts. Your donation will help us continue to fight for a greener, more equitable future for all city dwellers.
